I don't want to belittle 李寧 s achievement and he did win the most Gymnastics gold medals in that Olympics but two points we need to consider 1) the 84 Olympics was the one most of the Eastern Bloc, traditionally the strongest Gymnastic countries, had boycotted. 2) Peter Vidmar, the American gymnastic 李寧 finished behind in the All-Around competition, had never won any medal of any colour in world championship outside of L.A. Game. Of course these are just inconvenient facts for most Chinese sport fans
